Is a System Boiler the Best Option for Your Home?
A system boiler could be an excellent choice if your property fits the following:
- Larger homes with multiple bathrooms and radiators: System boilers are designed to deliver hot water to several showers and taps at the same time without compromising performance.
- Homes with available storage space: Because they use a separate hot water cylinder, you’ll need enough room to house the cylinder comfortably.
- Properties with limited loft space: Unlike conventional boilers, system boilers don’t require header tanks in the loft, making them ideal where roof space is restricted.
- Homes with lower water pressure: The built-in pump helps maintain steady water circulation and consistent flow, although overall output still depends partly on your mains water supply.
Combi Boiler
Is a Combi Boiler the Best Option for Your Home?
A combi boiler could be the ideal solution if your property meets the following criteria:
- Small to medium-sized homes: Combi boilers are perfectly suited to properties with one bathroom, delivering heating and hot water efficiently without the need for stored reserves.
- Homes with limited space: As there’s no requirement for a separate hot water cylinder or loft tank, combi boilers are compact and ideal for properties where storage space is at a premium.
- Households wanting hot water on demand: Combi boilers heat water directly from the mains, providing instant hot water whenever you need it.
- Properties with good mains water pressure: Because combi boilers rely on the mains supply, they perform best in homes with strong and consistent water pressure.
Important Considerations When Switching to a Combi Boiler
Space Savings
Removes the need for a separate loft water tank and hot water cylinder, freeing up valuable storage space.
- Gain Additional Loft Space
- Removal of cylinder (airing Cupboard)
Instant Hot Water
Delivers hot water straight from the mains supply, so you won’t run out. Combi boilers are generally ideal for homes with one to two bathrooms, as running multiple outlets at once can reduce water pressure.
- Hot Water in seconds
- No Need for HWS Controls
Improved Efficiency
Modern combi boilers are highly energy-efficient, helping to reduce energy bills and lower your carbon footprint.
- Reduction for energy bills
- The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- Lower carbon footprint
Stronger Water Pressure
When professionally installed with upgraded pipework, you can enjoy strong mains water pressure throughout your home eliminating the need for noisy shower pumps or additional systems to boost water pressure.
- No external pumps
- Less maintenance
- Stronger water pressure
Important Considerations When Switching to System Boiler
Hot Water Cylinder Required
A system boiler works with a separate hot water cylinder, so you’ll need adequate space to accommodate it. However, there’s no need for a loft water tank, simplifying the overall setup compared to conventional systems.
- No Need for a loft water tank alike conventional systems
- HWS Cylinder Required
Strong Performance for Multiple Bathrooms
System boilers store hot water in a cylinder, making them ideal for homes where several taps or showers may be used at the same time without a significant drop in pressure.
- Several taps can run hot water simultaneously
- Perfect for housholds with more than one bathroom
Improved Efficiency
Modern system boilers are highly energy-efficient, helping to reduce energy bills and lower your carbon footprint.
- Reduction for energy bills
- The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- Lower carbon footprint
Pipework & Cylinder Compatibility
Existing pipework and the current cylinder may need upgrading to meet modern standards and ensure the system operates efficiently.
- Modern cylinder saving space
- HWS Controls
What is a gas safety certificate?
MA CP12 certificate is a document that proves that your property complies with Gas Safety Regulations.
Renewed yearly, it's issued by a qualified gas engineer. As a Landlord you "must" have a CP12 certificate for each property you rent out and you must provide the tenant with a copy, as the landlord it's your responsibility to ensure gas appliances are maintained and serviced regularly.
A valid CP12 certificate is required to show checks have been done by a registered gas safe engineer. Not having one is breaking the law and puts people's lives at risk.
Contact Broughton Building Services for gas safety advice and to obtain a valid CP12 certificate.
